Artist's Comments

I was disappointed with the shots that I took at Garie Beach last Sunday morning, especially as I woke at 3.00am to get there for sunrise. I'm struggling to find any that I am happy with and this is one of the better ones.

I was struggling to find compositions that I liked and the sunrise was not worth getting up for. To make matters worse a tick managed to hitch a ride home with me and a few hours later decided to start burrowing into my head. Danni couldn't believe how hard the little bugger was to pull out with the tweezers. My head is still tender at the point that he had burrowed in!

I, for one, am glad you got up! This is beautiful.

Nasty things ticks. You need to watch for signs of sickness and rashes. Lymes disease is something to beware of if you folks get it over there. If I get one, I remove it and put it in a jar with the date on it so it can be tested if necessary. So far, so good...;)

I like it a lot, you can be satisfied with it indeed.

OMFG - I hate ticks with every fibre of my entire body. In my opinion, they belong to the worst scum this planet has spawned.

But I do like this shot - and you know what distinguishes the really good photographers from us mediocre ones? You take all kinds of pains (getting up at 3 am, tickbites) to get THAT shot ;-) even if you're not satisfied.

Hate days like that, but I like the pic!

Ticks... Part of life out here. Instead of pulling them out, try just smothering them with vaseline or some other viscous cream like hand cream. They breathe through a hole in their ass, so if you cover that they can't breathe and just die and fall out. Try pulling them out and you run the risk of breaking their head off inside you causing infection.

I am a volunteer bush fire-fighter, and I think our Fire Control Officer once came home from a fire with 6! That's how we're trained to remove them. But good idea :iconponddreamer: about keeping them for future testing. Might suggest that one to the brigade.

I don't think it's a good idea to smother the tick. Check this out: [link]
It says: "Never cover the tick with any substances such as gasoline, alcohol, or nail polish. If you do so, you may cause the tick to regurgitate infectious material into your bite resulting in an increased risk of tick borne disease." I've heard this many times on TV and even my doctor said so. The only way is to remove it with tweezers gently and carefully. :)
